Art in Bloom • March 23-26, 2017
Interpreting Martin Puryear’s sculpture, Maroon, for Milwaukee Art Museum’s Art in Bloom 2017 took time and contemplation. You cannot interpret art with a simple glance. One must pause, contemplate, investigate to come to a deeper understanding. We believe this to be true when assessing people as well, and worked to illustrate this with natural elements. Our floral creation shows an elegant face to the viewer while revealing a rainbow effect made of bulb plants within it. Come and explore all the creative installations!
Martin Puryear’s minimalist sculpture, Maroon, with its bulbous shape, circular wooden cap, and variety of materials and textures, reflects the artist’s ability to create subtle contradictions within a singular form.
Deb and Ron’s floral creation follows Puryear’s rejection the industrial materials commonly associated with the Minimalist movement, in favor of those more organic in nature.
